Re: fail to appear

You most likely have a warrant for your arrest for your failure to appear in court. What usually happens is the judge sets a certain amount of money that you have to post for bail before you will get a new court date. As to the third offense shoplifting, the law says you must serve at least 90 days in jail if you are convicted. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts throughout New Jersey in the past. I would like to discuss your case with you in more detail. Please contact me to talk about this. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

Re: fail to appear

the fact that you faled to appear could be treted much more seriously than the original charge, especially if it is a shoplifting charge...

I would have very specific advice for you, HIRE a lawyer and clear up that warrant, otherwise you will be living your life waiting to be rearrested for that old charge... if it is a shoplifting charge the penalties will be relatively minor, and if you turn yourself in you still may have an opportunity to have ab etter result than if youre rearrested or brought in inviluntarily on the warrant...

Re: fail to appear

The problem is not so much the possibility of bail jumping, but when you failed to appear, the Court likely issued a bench warrant for your arrest. You need to retain an attorney who will seek to have the bench arrant vacated and resolve your charges. The outcome depends in part upon whether this is your first offense, or what you criminal history looks like. If you are in northern new jersey, feel free to call or e-mail me.
