Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
When false charges against you effece your professional life.
A few years ago I was arrested for assault of an officer. Long story short we were arrested without our rights read and assult of an officer. I had just came home from the doctor and was being put on bed rest and had documentation to prove it but I could not afford an attorney. When the officers didn't come to court the first time the case was thrown out. Then they called me back a few months later for the same charge. I never plead guilty to any charge, but I was fined $1000, without jail time or probation. I was not even allowed time to find a lawyer. Now I am trying to get a job and assault of an officer keeps coming up in my back ground check and costing me jobs. What can I do? I never touched the officer, but it's ruining my life.

It's hard from what you are saying to determine exactly how your case was disposed of. Do you know if you were placed in Pretrial Intervention? (PTI). If so, that is not a conviction, and should not show up as such.
If it is a conviction, one thing you can do if you have been crime free since that time is to get an expungement. Please call me at 609-397-8400 for a free consultation. Once I have more information, I can advise you of the best course of action.
