Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

False Harrassment Charges

Over the weekend I was in a shopping center parking lot. 2 women walking side by side up the center of the isle I was exiting. I was creeping behind them for a few car lengths when I beeped my horn - not obnoxiously but to alert them I was behind them hoping they would move to the side so I could exit. They turned around & looked at me as if who was I to beep at them. I gestured for them to move to the side and 1 of them began yelling at me & approaching my car. I yelled back & then called the police when she took a picture of my license plate and continued to approach my door. I tried to back away to go around but the other woman was blocking me. The police officer treated me with disregard and did not take note of my entire statement. Yesterday I recieved a notice in the mail that these women filed 2C:33-4A on me. I called the police dept & they told me this was a criminal matter & there will be a prosecuter. I didn't do anything wrong, in fact this woman was coming after me, intimidating me with her words & gestures & my kids were in the car which she was aware of. All of this was caught by the security camera. I don't know what to do from here. I sell real estate, I could lose my license over this. What can I do?

When you are dealing with angry citizen's filing complaints against you it is advisable to hire a lawyer. You are facing having a criminal record, potential jail time, and heavy fines. I would have to see the actual complaint before I could advise you about the strength of the charge against you. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts throughout New Jersey in the past. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

Re: False Harrassment Charges

Obviously, this is a bad situation to be in, made worse by the attitudes of the police toward you. Just as obviously, you need someone to help you defend against the charge and make sure it goes away without major repercussions.

If you want to discuss the details, feel free to write me back direct at [email protected]. When is your Court date scheduled??

Mike
