Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I have been falsely accused of criminal mischief by throwing an object and breaking someone's back car window. They claim that this happened in the car park of a cinema that I went to on the day in question. Except that I never did it and the cinema manager has no record of any incident on that date anyway. They must have got my details from my car number plate and Now I have a summons to appear in court. Do I need a lawyer at this point or can i represent myself?

You need a lawyer. I think you know that you need a lawyer and that you do not know, with confidence, how to defend yourself.

Call me if you like.

You always have the right to represent yourself, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you are truly not guilty then the case will have to go to trial and you should not try to do a trial without a lawyer. Please call me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

My bet is that there is a lot more to this than outlined in your brief post...

If this case moves forward (and it lokks to me like this is headed for trial), you are going to be asked to retain a lawyer by the Judge, or apply for the services of the public defender.

Why not put yourself in the best possible position by hiring a skilled lawyer right away?

Mike
