Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Not sure what my fines are and if I should get an attorney

I am 19 and I have been charged

under two offenses:

Statute 2c:29-1a and 2c:33-2a(2).

On the short I was drunk, didn't

cause damage but was caught. The

cops arrested me, did not give tell me

my rights upon arrest but told me

that I would not be given jail time.

What should I do and how harsh

should I expect the law to be?

Thank you for your time.

Re: Not sure what my fines are and if I should get an attorney

You are facing at a maximum up to 7 months in jail and $1,500.00 or more in fines. Depending on your criminal record you may or may not be facing actual jail time. If convicted you will also have a criminal record which may or may not be able to be expunged after five years. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail. There may be ways to minimize the penalties.I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

Sincerely yours, -Ronald Aronds, Esq.-

Re: Not sure what my fines are and if I should get an attorney

I can't possibly suggest to you enough that you get an attorney. Jail time aside (its up to the judge, not the cop) you are looking at a criminal record that could impact your life for many, many years to come. In fact, the judge may force you to get an attorney.

My initial consultations are always free and I can represent you in any court in NJ, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.

Re: Not sure what my fines are and if I should get an attorney

You may want to hire an attorney because the charges you face are criminal and if you plead or are found guilty to the charges as written you will have a criminal record. The Judge could also impose jail time although it is unlikely if you are a first time offender. If your case is somewhere outside of Ocean County ( I prosecute there) then you can call to discuss the case. 732/286/2170
