Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
i forgot about court
I have a court case because of a voilation of Parobation. I thought my court date was the 8th of february but instead it was the 4th . I know have a bench warrant out for my arrest and would like to know if i could avoid jail time if possible. I have to children and in jail i will fall behind on child support and on fines that I owe. I am really not a bad person. I just gogt laid off and could not affort the fines that I owed and childsupport so I stopped paying the fine to pay childsupport and violated probation and now I miss the court date and I can not afford to be behind on anything else

Re: i forgot about court
Please contact your probation officer right away, or maybe even the court clerk for the judge you are supposed to go before. Explain to them that you made an honest mistake in the dates. They may agree not to send you to jail for failing to appear. Don't delay - contact them today. It is up to the judge to decide if you should go to jail on the warrant, and if you voluntarily turn yourself in to your probation officer and apologize, you may avoid going to jail. Good Luck.
