Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Harassment

My boyfriend is legally separated from his wife. Someone must have forgotten to tell her. Since we became involved she has done everything in her power to break us up and make us miserable. She has called and threatened me at my job, she has sent anonymous letters to my boss and his boss about us, she has us followed, she calls my house but does not identify herself, she waits for us outside of his apartment, she has come to my home, she sent my husband (we are in the process of a divorce as well) letters with a lot of slanderous lies.I recently moved out of the state to pretty much get away from her and it is not helping because I am still with my job and she has not stopped. What can I do? Any ideas? We are at our wits end with her and I am afraid of her.

Thank you.

Re: Harassment

It is not clear from your information exactly who is located in which jurisdiction. In any event, your boyfriend may have the basis to file a domestic violence complaint. If so, a temporary restraining order would be issued immediately.

Under NJ law, you could not file a DV complaint because you would not qualify as a household member, but there are other avenues of legal relief, but would need to know where all the parties are located to determine which state law is applicable.

Good Luck.
