Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Hindering Apprehension
I have a sticky situation. My boyfriend was arrested for a probation violation. When the police came to my door they asked if he was here when I asked them what this was about they told me they just needed to talk to him for a minute. I then told the cops he wasn't home. I let the cops in my house to search and still didn't tell me what this was about. They found him hiding in my backyard. About 1 hour later I was issued a ticket for hindering apprehension. What should I do?

You should call an attorney. The judge will likely force you to get an attorney anyway.
My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss your case.
Re: Hindering Apprehension
This is a violation of the criminal code. Depending upon the level of charge against your boyfriend, this could be as high as a third degree criminal charge against you. Depending upon your past criminal history (if any) you cold be facing actual jail time on this charge. I would have to see your complaint sheet before I could give you a definite answer as to the seriousness of the charge against you. My advice is to hire an attorney to try and minimize the potential penalties you are facing. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts throughout New Jersey in the past. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.
