Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

former home had 9 dead animals in it

I have been in process of exiting my home as it was forclosed on. I hvae not lived in the home for almost 6 months, and have been there very little since. The house was in bad shape (clean-wise) and that is my fault, I had 2 dogs whihc I was tryign to find homes for after I moved out, I went by twice daily for the month they were there, but the house was damaged during this time. After the house was officially forclosed on, I got a call from teh ASPCA stating that there were 9 dead cats in my home adn the police were involved. She stated that there was no trauma to the cats, and she believed I was a ''Horder'' and just didn't know what happened to them. Thsi is not teh case! I had the windows (no screens) open on multiple occastions to air the house out, when I was not home and I believe that some of the MANY stray cats in teh neighborhood got into the home that way. This woman advised me that she would contact me in the next couple of days, and I wanted to know what I should expect? Do I need a lawyer? Will I get fines? What types of penalties are there? I am scaed, and this isn't even my fault. These are not my cats, and the room they were in was not an area i used for quite some time. I don't know what to do.
