Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

What Do I DO?

I came home from being out with my friends one night and we were in my room talkin when one of my roomates came downstairs and began to harras me and throw stuff at me. I got up to do something one of my roomates grabbed me because they thought I was going to hit him and while I was being held back I was Hit in the face, cut with a watch and required 9 stitches. I pressed charges against him since he refused to pay the medical bill and when he got arreested he pressed charges against me saying I lunged at him which is not true. I do not know if i should drop criminal charges and just sue him civially or if I should go ahead with this since he pressed charges against me? He also has people going to court testifying that I lunged at him that were not even present when the incident took place. so i am cluless as to what to do?

Sounds like there are some witnesses on your side too. You would need them to prove a case against your roommate. It is up to you whether you want to go forward or just sue in the civil courts. Make sure you don't drop the criminal unless he does too but there still will be court costs involved. If you want to discuss this further, you can call me at 732-286-2170.

Re: What Do I DO?

IfI was you, I would proceed with this case. You will have at least an equal chance of winning as he will, and maybe better. Even if you lunged at your friend, this may not rise to the level of a criminal violation. Also, if you drop the charges against him and he doesn't against you, you are stuck. In a case like this you would hire an attorney to help you present the case properly at trial. If you proceed on this charge the case must go to trial, so it would definitely be in your best interests to hire a trained professional to represent you in court. I am an attorney who has handled many criminal cases similar to yours in the courts in New Jersey in the past. Please call me at 1-908-272-0111 to discuss your case and to see what I could do to help you in this situation. Thank you.

Sincerely yours, - Ronald Aronds, Esq.

You were cut and filed the first criminal complaint. His criminal complaint is clearly his reaction to your complaint and is defensive. You

should hold your ground. You should give me a call to discuss the case further.
