Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
House for bail
We used our house as collateral for bail for a family member charged with a serious criminal offense. The case is taking longer than anyone expected. What are our options if we want to sell the house? Can we replace the collateral with cash or a lien on another property?

Re: House for bail
You need to do exactly as you propose. You may be able to accomplish it yourself by contacting the county clerk's office but if that poses a problem counsel can assist.
Give us a call if we can help.
Re: House for bail
You are smarter than you know. What you propose is exactly the solution. You need for the attorney to apply to the Court for the substitution of assets, possibly combined with an application to reduce the amount of the security provided.
Call me if you like.
