Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Identity Theft

Hello,

This question is in regards to my brother. I am concerned about his future. He was arrested about three years ago and spent 30 days in jail for credid card theft as well as identity theft. After being released he moved out of state and has been living there eversince. He never went to court for any of these charges. He is doing well now. He has never had any prior record until this and nothing since. My question is; Will New Jersey come out of state to get him or if he contacts a lawyer will he have to turn himself in? Also is he looking at any jail time on this? Keep in mind this is his first time in any serious trouble and he is 28 yrs old. Thank you.

Re: Identity Theft

I think you already posted this question, but with regard to your additional question, I don't see NJ picking up your brother if he contacts an attorney to work something out. It is not easy nor cheap to extradite someone so if someone is going to do it on their own, they will just work with the attorney. Otherwise, that attorney can't trust them. He is probably facing several years at the max, but I'm very confident that we could work something out where he serves no more time.
