The lawyer is bluffing. Since s/he is attorney of record, the judge will require his/her presence regardless of whether you pay the additional $1,500.00.
If the lawyer fails to appear for the sentencing, the judge will be upset at the lawyer, not at you or your son.
Re: juvinile plead of child abuse
I am offended as a member of the legal profession who handles many criminal cases that this lawyer you have would threaten you like this and demand more money when you are in such a terrible time. He should be ashamed of himself. You should call the court and find out when your son's case is set for sentencing, and then go there and tell the judge what this lawyer said to you. This lawyer could find himself in a lot of trouble for acting like this. If you need further legal advice in the future please give me a call at 908-272-0111. I will not charge you for a consultation on any legal matter. Good luck to you and your son.

Your son's attorney can not refuse to go to sentencing. Tell him you will tell the judge of his threat; he will do an about face.
