Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

I mistakenly boarded a Jersey City Light Rail train without buying a ticket. I thought you could buy one onboard. Instead, I was issued a summons for $74.

If I am convicted, is this something I need to be concerned about on my "record" or should I just pay it to save myself aggrivation.

Thanks.

You sound like someone who called my office about being charged with theft of services on the

Light Rail. Theft, no matter how minor, will, upon conviction, prevent you from working for a financial institution, including banks and investment brokerage houses, computer companies and many other employers. Once you plead guilty it is too late to realize how serious your situation is. You can go to court and be fired from your job after the next record check or you can hire an attorney.

I agree with Mr. Moore. If this is a criminal charge, you should hire an attorney today. Call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss.

This sounds like a theft charge, but please contact me to let me know what exact statute number you were charged with. WIth that information I can give you a definite answer to your question. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.
