In New Jersey any offense with a possible maximum sentence of more than six months is at least a fourth degree crime.

A NY Class A misdemeanor carries up to 1 year in jail. That makes it basically equivalent to a 4th degree crime in NJ. 4th degree crimes carry up to 18 months. Call me if you would like to discuss it further at 877*688*3879.
