Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Can i appear at a parole hearing?
I have been mentoring a young man for the past year & I am amazed at the progress he has been making while in prison. That progress in not only evident by his accomplishments in prison but also by his attitude. He cannot articulate himself very well & I feel there is a lot the parole board needs to know before making its decision. I am NOT a victim, who I know can appear at a parole hearing. His crime was not a violent one. Would I be able to appear at his parole hearing to speak on his behalf? I have been a teacher in the inner city for over 25 years.

Re: Can i appear at a parole hearing?
I would suggest that you write a letter to the Parole Board setting forth your opinions of the young man and that you request to be present for his hearing. The Parole Board would be under state government in the yellow pages.
