You have described a theft offense. The penalty depends on how much money you took. If it were $200.00 or less there is a maximum sentence of six months. If it were more than $200.00 and less than $500.00 the maximum sentance is 18 months. If it were $500 or more the maximum sentence would be five years. If it were $75,000 or more the maximum sentence would be ten years in prison.

The answer will depend on the amount but the consequences can be serious. You are advised to seek counsel ASAP with all of the facts to see if the problem can be straightened out or minimized.
