Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Can a person do jail time if a person commits sucide in their home because she thinks her boyfriend was playing her? Hello, I have a friend who is currently in jail because a girl he was dealing with decided to take her own life. Her family blames him however, I feel as though she knew that he attracted alot of girls before she even started dealing with him. She wanted to stay in that relationship. She was in his house at the time and he recieved a phone call from another girl she started acting crazy according to him. He was shot in the arm and she shot herself on the side of her head. He panic at first cleaning up the scene because he thought he was going to get in trouble for having a girl over. Nonetheless when he realize it was serious he called the cops and she died 2 hrs later in the hositipal. She also tried to commit sucide before over a guy that didn't want her previous before this.
