If your job application really asks whether you have been convicted of or pled guilty to "a crime or an offense", then your prior conviction seems to require you to say yes. There may be reasons in New Jersey why you might be able to say no; alternatively, you may be able to expunge the conviction so that you will be allowed to say no in the future even if you must say yes for now.
