Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Plead the fifth

Hello Sir,

Hopefully you can help me out. I live in New Jersey. I was arrested for deposite fraud and when I spoke to the detective I was trying to keep my brother out of trouble because she was the one who used a false id to cash a check. I told the detective that it was me that went to the bank. I got a public defendent and told him what i told the detective and my brother is willing to testify saying he is the one who took the fake id with my pic on it and cashed the check. I am afraid that with the id with my picture on it and my statement to the detective will overturn my brother's admission to his crime. Should I have faith in my brother's admission or should I seek a better lawyer???

Re: Plead the fifth

It is difficult to advise you based on your limited post except to say that this has potentially serious consequences, and therefore you should at least consult with an attorney. It seems to me that at a minimum, you should try to obtain the videotapes from the bank's security camera.

Best of Luck,

Durrell
