Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Police Questioing of Witness
If the police question a witness regarding a criminal act & you verbally inform them you did not witness anything, then they come back requesting a written statment are you required to do so? Can you refuse if the witness told them what he/she knows and does not want to be involved anyfurther?

I would advise that person to get an attorney. If you say you did not witness anything and then they later find that it appears you did, you could be charged for numerous offenses.
