Re: polygraph

You should be wary of taking a polygraph test with the police; it is often used as a wedge to obtain a confession. Remember that the police feel perfectly justified in using trickery to catch a criminal and may view you as a prime suspect because of your prior record.

Secondly, the police are like anyone else they can give accurate information about you to your employer.

If you have not lied about your prior record, it might be a good thing to tell you employer about your prior record BEFORE the police do. I would think that a twenty year old criminal record probably only reflects on the person you were twenty years ago.

Thirdly, you could have such an old criminal record expunged so that the police could not tell anyone about this record in the future.

I am a criminal defense attorney in the State of NJ. I advice you against taking the polygraph. The results are not perfect.
