Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Possession of a stolen boat

My friend bought a dinky, used motor boat for $500 from an elderly man who said he was moving out of state. He had the boat for 2 months, when he was out on the river fishing and the police came and took him in stating it was a stolen boat. They arrested him and gave him ROR. What are the penalties for receiving stolen property in NJ?

Up to 5 years in prison. If he avoids prison, he will be placed on probation, fined and he will have a criminal record. It sounds like he has a great case. He should get a good attorney to fight this right away and stop it before it gets expensive.
