Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Probation Fines and statute of limitations

Eight years ago I had a probation fine assessed in a domestic matter. I paid half. Is there a statute of limitions on court fines? Do I need to pay of the balance after all of this time to avoid any legal problems? Thank you.

Re: Probation Fines and statute of limitations

There is no statute of limitations for paying off court fines. They remain outstanding until you pay them off completely. Worse than that, if you fail to pay your fines most likely a warrant will be issued for your arrest. This would allow any police officer in the whole country to arrest you on the outstanding warrant. You need to check with the court that originally heard your case 8 years ago, find out how much you still owe, and ask them what you need to do to get this paid off. I am an attorney that handles criminal cases similar to yours. Please call me at 908-272-0111 to discuss your case and to see what other assistance I can give you. There is no charge for a consultation, either by phone or in person. Thank you. -Ronald Aronds, Esq.-
