Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Rape and assault

My sister has been going through some things and wont actually sit down and talk to me about how everything is going so I thought Id ask here. Her and her male friend were victims of an assault, she was raped and her friend was practically beaten to a pulp. They went to the hospital and theyve been working their case ever since. Now its time for her to go to trial and get on the stand and testify against. How does it all work after she goes through all that. It was more than one guy and theyre being tried together. They have the same lawyer as well. After the verdict comes in will they be taken away and told how much time theyll be serving if found guilty? How does that whole legal process work.

Re: Rape and assault

First, they should really be in touch with the victim-witness liason at the prosecutor's office. They will explain everything.

If the defendants are convicted, a sentencing date will be set, which will be about two to four months afterwards. It will be at that date that they will find out how much time they get.
