Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
What can he be sentenced to?
My son is a 15 years old juvenile and
has numerous charges of burglary and
robbery. He was involved in a robbery
yesterday but he called me from the
Youth House detention center telling
me he had nothing to do with this. The
victim that was robbed
described my son and said he had
punched him and stold 2 juices from
the grocery store. My son had nothing
to do with this but was arrested
because of previous records. Can a
public defender get him out of jail so i
can get him out of the country and
involved in a bootcamp in the
Dominican Republic or would I have to
hire a private attorney to have this
accomplished? The Union City police
department knows my son personally
and they seem to want the worst for my
son. They typed in false statements on
the criminal report. They have also
pressured him to say he is guilty of
things he never did promising him that
he won't be arrested and wont get in
trouble. How can I get my son out of
this mess. Can a public defender
enforce my plan of getting him out of
the country or would I need a private
attorney to act upon this?

Re: What can he be sentenced to?
Given your son's history, it would be a challenge to get him out of the DC in the first place. I see it as impossible for a court to allow him to leave the country prior to the case being finished. Your best case scenario would be to work that into the sentence and even that would require a very liberal judge because NJ has no jurisdiction there and thus, no way to enforce their order that he go to bootcamp or do anything for that matter. If they do let him out, they would probably take his passport.
Given his history, I would strongly suggest getting him an attorney as this will have to go to trial. My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 and we can discuss his case.

The public defender assigned to you son is probably quite capable of helping you to have the result you want. On the other hand a private attorney will probably be more able to
spend more time on your son's case.
Call me if you like.
