Shoplifting for $750
I was caught shoplifting at Macys for $750. Was taken in by the cops for few hours where they did prints and photos. Was released with summons. What are the likely outcomes of this? SHould i approach macys before going to court and settle this with them?

You are looking at a 3rd degree felony. You should pick up the phone and call an attoreny ASAP. Anything else you say to Macy's can and will be used against you.

The value of what was alleged shoplifted makes your charge a third degree offense, a serious charge. You would do better to keep you mouth closed and hire an attorney.

This is a third degree crime due to the value of the merchandise. Under NJ law a third degree crime has maximum penalties of 5 years in state prison and $15,000.00 in fines. If you are a first offender you probably not looking at the maximum penalties, but still you are looking at serious penalties. Do not approach Macy's on your own - it will serve no purpose and can only hurt you at this time. I recommend that you do hire a lawyer as soon as you can.
