Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
shoplifting
Is there a statute of limitations in NJ for shoplifting. The store did not have my son arrested but now they are looking for compensation even though they have the merchandise and nothing was ever lost. They are now threatening him with filing a complaint. It has been over 16 months since the incident. We really don't have the money to pay or I would just to get rid of this problem. He is over 18 but still in school so he is not working and I am so broke that I that I may need to file bankruptcy. Also, we have moved 2 times since the incident so the store does not have our address.
