Simple Assault case

I got into an argument with my mother's boyrfriend and he punched me in the face. He was charged with simple assault and arrested. He got out the next day but now we have to go to court. What can I expect? Do I need to hire a lawyer?

The State should represent you, so you don't really need a lawyer.
