Your question is difficult to answer because your question supposes that you know everything the police are relying upon. If you were arrested you should fina an attorney and not just sit idly by hoping that your arrest will just blow away like a cloud in the sky. See an attorney let him or her investigate and protect you.

In order to keep you in jail or even to arrest you in the first place the police have to have what is called "probable cause". Although you say that they didn't have anything against you, they must have believed that they did. If you are not released on your own recongnizance, then you have to post bail in whatever amount is set by a judge on your case. Robbery is a very serious charge. You should definitely get legal representation to make sure your rights are fully protected. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts in New Jersey in the past. Please call me at 908-272-0111 to discuss your case in more detail. There is never any charge for simply talking to me about a case. Thank you.

Sincerely yours, -Ronald Aronds, Esq.-

The police must have "probable cause" -- that is some proof that you were involved such as a witness who provides a statement identifying you-- before they can even arrest and charge you. After you are charged, bail is set. There are a number of factors which determine whether you can be released on bail or on your own word (ROR). These factors include prior arrests, criminal record and the possibility of you fleeing the charges. More information is needed before I can advise you specifically in your case. Please call me offices at 908-486-3181 if I can help. Lee Mears
