Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Temporary Restraining Order placed on victim.

I am a victim of domestic violence on multiple counts, the most recent this past Sunday Jan 13. My on again off again girlfriend has a serious drinking problem and assaulted me with a weapon on this most recent occasion. I locked myself in my bathroom and called 911 to report the matter. Police arrived and I explained to police what had happened, they observed a large laceration on my left foot and asked how it had happened I, told them that she had struck me with something of what I did not know. I was subsequently transported via ambulance to the hospital where my injury was photographed and documented by police, I also signed paperwork in that regard. Tuesday night I was served by police with a TRO initiated from my attacker. I am very concerned as I am a man and my victimizer a woman, I have been informed that the courts are often unsympathetic to males in this position. I would like to know what rights I have as a victim who is being further victimized by a relentless highly unstable person who has a long history of victimizing her male counterparts? Should I also obtain a TRO against her or does the one serve both parties? I have worked for the same employer for 13 years, I go to school nights and have much to lose.

Before you do anything else, you should speak to an attorney. You can only get TRO's for specific causes of actions, not becuase she signed one against you. You already realize that you face an uphill battle as the man in addition to being the alleged batterer. It may look like you are just getting revenge by filing one against her.

I have an office in Toms River. I can meet with you tomorrow or this weekend and my consultations are free. Call me at 732/247/3340 to set up an appointment.
