Re: theft what are the penalties for the following

Without seeing the official charges, it is hard to say from your facts, but the potential penalties are serious. You should definitely speak to private defense counsel. Feel free to call our offices. We do not charge for initial consultations.

Re: theft what are the penalties for the following

You are potentially looking at high fines and jail or prison time if you are convicted. The amount of the fines and jail time are dependent on the exact section of the NJ criminal code you are charged under. I am an attorney who has handled many cases similar to yours in various courts throughout NJ in the past. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

Re: theft what are the penalties for the following

The penalty depends upon the value attributed to what was taken. Under $200.00 is a disorderly persons offense punishable by up to six months in jail. $200.00 to $499.00

is punishable by up to 18 months in jail.

It sounds like the taking was accidental and that is a good defense.

Call me if you like.
