Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Theft from work

5 years ago I was working as a front desk agent for a hotel in NJ. At the time I was a compulsive gambler. When we needed change, we went to the casino next door for it. One of those times, I decided to try a few dollars of the change for my job to try to win some money to order something to eat since I had already blown my paycheck. At first I lost 20, then 40, before I knew it, all of the change plus what was left in my drawer. I wrote the owner who would be there in the morning a letter, promising to repay every cent and apologizing for what I had done and I left town. A warrant was issued for my arrest, which I was never picked up on. I started payments to the hotel, between payments, they sold the hotel and it was made into a parking lot, so I had no one to make restitution to. I really would like to make restitution, and have the charges dropped. For my line of work, something like that on my record would bar me from employment. Also, never before, or since my crime have I ever committed any other crimes, save a couple of speeding tickets which I paid. I also am no longer a compulsive gambler. I do not know how to find the owner, or how to ask to have the charges dropped in exchange for restitution, or what to do.

Re: Theft from work

I can definitely help you with this.

If you have no prior record, likelihood is, the charges can be downgraded to something very insignificant or dropped completely.

Also, since the owner is no longer around, there may be a good chance that the charges could be dropped entirely.

Please call to discuss.
