Re: Threatens Violence
I'm guessing you mean terroristic threats? If that is the case, yes, it is a 3rd degree crime or felony. A felony is a criminal charge that will be heard by a jury. If convicted, you may face prison time. I suggest you see an attorney ASAP if you are charged or may be charged.

Re: Threatens Violence
In New Jersey there are different ways to characterize an unlawful threat of violence. It can be called "menacing" and be deemed a disorderly persons offense punishable by up to six months in jail or it can be called a terroristic threat which has a maximimu sentence of five years.
"felony" is still used.
In New Jersey there are criminal offenses which are punishable by jail sentence exceeding six months and disorderly offense, which are deemed to be quasi-criminal offenses because they are punishable by up to but no more than a six month jail sentence.
"Quasi" means almost so that a quasi criminal offense is almost a crimel.
The importance of the distinction is that a conviction for a crime is likely to legally disqualify a person from many areas of employment such as working in a bank or the financial sector of the economony such as insurance or investments.
