Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Unknown Charge

A few weeks ago I attended a concert in Camden, NJ. In the parking it is common to see balloons of nitrous floating along. In all my years I have never witnessed a cop arrest someone for possessing these balloons, until now. In my situation I was walking through the parking lot with balloons I had blown up myself. A cop quickly deflated my balloons and took my information. I explained to him they were for my little nephew and he responded with ''I wasn't born yesterday.'' I then asked why he was taking my information and he ignored the query. He gave my ID back and told me to get out of there. He had never given me a citation or any other documentation. A week later I received several Attorney Advertisements stating I'm being charged with Toxic Chemicals in Camden. It caught me totally by surprise. This is a multi-question query. First, is it possible that these attorney advertisements are mistaken. Second, I cannot possibly see how they have any sort of case. Since the cop could not distinguish what was in the balloons, he obviously assumed the worst. I am two hours away from Camden, Do I need a lawyer. Will it even goto court? Help.

Re: Unknown Charge

I do not know how the charge could be proven if the evidence was destroyed, but your question concerns whether there is a charge pending against you. I would think that you should call the Camden Municipal Court because the attorney mailings are based on information obtained from the court.

Call me if you like.
