Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
Urinating in Public
This past weekend I was issued a ''Complaint'' or a ticket in Beach Haven, Ocean County NJ for Urinating in Public, on the beach under violation 141-2E. How much do these fines run, and should I get a lawyer? I don't want this on my permanent record, and I want to take care of it as swiftly as possible. Also, I don't live in NJ, is there a way I can get out of a court appearance? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You should contact a lawyer as soon as possible. Feel free to e-mail me directly if you are not comfortable calling. I won't charge for a consultation.

I'm not one of those attorneys that tells you to always get an attorney because there are some times when you don't need one. This is a town ordinance so the town sets the fees. The only way to find out is to call them. Normally I would say your probably don't need an attorney for this as hiring one (a good one) will cost you more than the actual fine. However, you don't want this on your record, so if that is the case, the surest way to put up a good defense is to get a good attorney.
I have an office in Ocean County and would be happy to talk to you about this case so you can decide if you really need an attorney. My initial consultations are always free and I can deal with at least the first the court apperance for you so you don't have to come back to NJ.
Call me at 732/247/3340 or drop me an email with your number so we can discuss this over the phone.
Re: Urinating in Public
The solution is to change the charge to a municipal ordiance vaguely alleging disorderly conduct.
Hire an attorney.
It is possible to have an attorney appear without you with your affidavit authorizing him to handle the matter on your behalf.
Call me if you like.
