Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey

Violations of Probation

I am aquainted with someone who is on probation for drug offenses & burglary offenses. As part of his probation agreement he is not to drive, he is not to drink, he can not have any new charges & he must keep a job.

None of these requirements have been met yet not even the probation office in our county will do anything.

I am not sure who I should contact next or even if I have any right to contact someone. Any suggestions of an action I could take to have this person's file at the very least reviewed for violations?

Violations of Probation

As a citizen, you have the right to contact anyone that you want. However, as a mere acquaintance of the person on probation, the entire matter strikes me as none of your business. This is between the person on probation and the probation department. You've presented nothing in your message that suggests that it would be appropriate for you to gratitously stick your nose into the situation.

I agree 100% with the other attorney.

Why would you want to take things into your own hands? Do you realize that your friend (if that's what he really is) will go to jail between 3-5 years, if the Judge violates his probation.

The NJ Probation department does a very good job & they usally know who is doing well and who is not.
