Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
violent crime
person is being charged with aggravated manslaughter and a plea of 20yrs. my ? is if people have testified that all he did was punch and kick the victim and wasn't the cause of victim's death according to autopsy it was a knife that killed him, shouldn't his charges be lessend or shouldn't his plea be lessend he has already done 2yrs.

You seem to be saying that he has pled guilty and has been sentence. Are you? If he has not pled guilty and the charge is merely pending you should give me a call to discuss solutions to his problem.

If you are charged with such a serious crime you must already have a lawyer, and you should probably ask them about the details of this plea. I haven't seen the evidence in this case, but in general if the person commits an aggravated assault and the person assaulted then dies, even if other people were also involved in the aggravated assault, then that person who did the kicking can still be charged with manslaughter.
