Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
my wife was ordered to pay resitution of 10,000 for a disorderly person charge. We do not have the funds to pay this amount of money and need to know if its possible to get the amount reduced or appeal the judgment. What will happen if my wife tells the court that she cannot pay that amount

This sounds pretty crazy. I don't see how a MC Judge can do that. My guess is that you either went to court without an attorney or you went with a bad one. Otherwise, there is some big time missing information here.
The restitution is exactly that; the amount to replace or repair whatever was damaged. You really can't appeal the amount if there was evidence presented showing this was the amount of the actual damage.
