Legal Question in Criminal Law in New Jersey
My young teen was alleged to have shoplifted sunglasses In New Jersey and now a law firm is seeking $150. My question is she was seen with the sunglasses prior to entering the dressing room with a bathing suit and the sunglasses had no security tag or price tag. Both were stuck to my daughters clothing that she was wearing. Does this constitute the defininition of shoplifting? The sunglasses were never concealed and she did not enter the dressing room or leave the store. I believe it was an overzealous security team. Any help would be appreciated.

You should not confuse her apparent innocence with a certainty that justice will be done in her
case. She needs an attorney. Additionally, the store is entitled to a minimum civil penalty from
a defendatn who shoplifts.
