Legal Question in Discrimination Law in New Jersey
wrongful termination
a few weeks ago i went to my GM about managers at my workplace making comments about my sexual preference and calling me a ''fag''. After talking to the GM i was told to talk to my DM who asked me a few questions about the recent events. a few days went by and nothing was done about it. a week later i am fired for doing the same thing that every other employee does and that manager push us to do. i have heard that in new jersey its a crime. my questions are. Do i have a case? How do i go about taking it to trial? do you suggest a certian law firm? im at a lost and feel like nothing will happen. i want to take a stand and show ppl that these isnt ok and will not be tolorated

Re: wrongful termination
You may have been discriminated against...however, it will really depend on WHERE this happened, because the law of the different states and cities has not caught up with the modern world, and in most, but not all, jurisdictions, discrimination based upon sexual preference is not illegal! Still, the good news is that it is illegal in many jurisdictions in this part of the country. Give my offices a call: 267.639.3105.
Re: wrongful termination
If you were terminated in NJ for sexual orientation, then it is a violation of the law and your rights. Morever, it is actionable and there are damages that can be obtained. Proof can always be difficult in thse cases, so corroboration of some type is typically what an attorney will look for.
I suggest that you contact us to discuss a potential case. There is no cost for consultation and it may be soemthing that we can help you with. I can be reaced by e-mail or at 800-34-NJ-LAW
