Legal Question in DUI Law in New Jersey

I was just arrested for DWI in NJ. Unfortunately, I had one 9 years ago so this is my second offense. My plans prior to this was to move to Michigan in a few weeks for grad school which begins in May. I have done some preliminary research and I see that Michigan is one of four states that do not participate with a "national driver's license revocation list." Would it be possible, prior to my case going to court, to establish residency and get a Michigan driver's license and maintain my driving privileges outside of NJ if I am found guilty of my second DWI?? Thank you in advance for any advice.

You are free to move any time you want, and free to apply for a Michigan license once you establish residency there. You still will have to address the DWI in New Jersey though, even if you have moved to Michigan. If you are found guilty of a second DWI then you will lose your New Jersey driving privileges and face mandatory jail time and mandatory Community Service in New Jersey. Please contact me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.
