Legal Question in DUI Law in New Jersey

community service

Out of 90 hrs of community service I only have 36 to go. There has been some extenuating circumstances beyond my control. Probation, hospitizations, college away from home. The one place I was going service was closed down due to health codes. They kept sending me to the local Moose Lodge who never had much work. I have a cronic health condition called sickle-beta-thalasemia, which I had to drop out of school from. I recently lost my job because I was in the hospital 2x in March. The court thinks I'm mess'n with them and never give me the time to explain, they don't want to hear it. Now it looks like they are trying to put me in jail. If I have to go to jail, I will probably become very ill. My condition is brought on by stress, weather, viral infections. I am 22 yrs old and have been trying to comply w/court and probation but they don't want to hear me. They want me to prove before June all my medical hospitalizations and schooling, which I can provde but have to get it together. I am unemployed and trying to get public assistance but for one month I keep playing phone tag w/social services. I will begin a transfusion program soon and if I have to go to jail, this will create another problem. I have notes from the dr.

Re: community service

I have been practicing for more than 20 years and I've dealt with this kind of issue lots of times. You ARE at risk of going to jail for this. Probation tends not to care a whole lot about the details and not listen very hard when there are complications. You need someone who can make the judge listen to the other side (your side). Your freedom and your health are at risk. Get a lawyer.
