Legal Question in DUI Law in New Jersey
Drving in NJ
To whom this may concern,
My name is--name removed-- I live in Brooklyn, NY. I am 16 years old. I have a class: DJ liscence in NY. I have a summer home down in monmouth county NJ, and am wondering if I can drive for the summer.
I was told by the Deal police department that I could, and when my father went to doube check they said no. I think I could drive since in upstate NY, there are certain restrictions when I can drive there from a certain time to a cartain time. Should I follow those rules in NJ? or am i not allowed to drive.
Please email me back at [email protected] with an answer.
Thanks so much for your time
Jonathan

Re: Drving in NJ
Dear Jonathan,
Because of your age you are not allowed to get a driver's license yet in New Jersey. I don't know what a New York DJ license is for sure, but I would guess that it is the same idea as a learner's permit for driving before age eighteen in New Jersey. Even if you have the equivalent of a learner's permit from New York, this still wouldn't allow you to drive in New Jersey since it is not a full driver's license. If you had a New Jersey learner's permit you would be able to drive in New Jersey if you had a fully licensed driver with you and followed the other restrictions that apply to New Jersey learner's permits. So anyway, have a nice summer at the Jersey shore, but don't drive unless you want to get ticketed and maybe even lose your New York driving priveleges. Sincerely yours, - Ronald Aronds, Esq. -
