Legal Question in DUI Law in New Jersey

dui, leaving scene, no licenese

My boyfriend crashed my car and left the scene of the accident. There were open beer bottles in the back seat. He got scared and told me to report the car stolen so I did (with me really thinking the car was stolen). He also does not have a license. It will also be his first offense. He wants to be honest and go to the police. Any idea of what consequences he will face. Or and advice on what he should do?

He has serious problems, and should consult (and pay) a criminal defense attorney.

You also have some problems.

There is a difference between honest and throwing away your rights. There are plenty of people sitting in prison right now that would be more than happy to explain this difference to him.

Before he even thinks about doing or saying anything, I suggest either of you call an attorney ASAP so he can have some sense talked into him before he digs himself a bigger whole than the one he is already in.

My initial consultations are always free, so call me at 732/247/3340 to discuss the case.
