Legal Question in Elder Law in New Jersey

My mother in law receives SSI, disability, medicare and medicaid. She is going to receive and inheritance and would like to give us a part of it. I know that she will lose her medicaid when she receives the inheritance and in order to get it back she needs to account for every penny of the inheritance that she spends through receipts. Is it possible for her to gift us a portion of the money?

There are alternatives to a special needs trust (which doesn't have to be as bad as what you describe), depending on alot of factors . . .including the amount of the inheritance, what the Will says, her condition, age, . . .
