Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
I have 4 boys with my wife, and we are going through a divorce. I had a planned vacation with them prior to her filing. My wife decided I could not take them with me. We went to court on the subject, and the judge asked if we could go to counseling as a family and then abide by the counselors recommendation. He asked if we had one and my wife recommended the one she has been seeing. I objected and asked if it could be someone we both had a long history with instead. He said my wives counselor was a professional, we only had two days to do this, and surprise, surprise, she had already agreed to see us. The judge said he couldn't order me not to take them, but could make a recommendation, and it would be good if I agreed to do what she recommended. Prior to our scheduled appointment with the counselor, our 18 year old called to tell me his car broke down about an hour away and needed help. I drove to him and had his car towed. After dropping him off, I got to meeting with our 12 year old, and 10 year old. Although they both said how much they wanted to go, she recommended they not go with daddy. I agreed to abide by the decision, and the boys were devastated. My wife then sent the 10 and 12 year old to the shore with her brother, who has been arrested multiple times for domestic violence, is a recovering alcoholic, and according to my wife is bipolar. My 18 year old wants to go on vacation with me to visit family. My 85 year old parents, and three siblings, a doctor, nursing home administrator, and a physical therapist. He is an adult so is not affected by the judges recommendation. My 16 year old, having just returned from the outer banks NC with his friends family wants to go with us and not to the Jersey Shore. Because of his age, and the fact that he has been away during the drama, is he effected by the judges recommendation?
