12 years separated after 15 years married
What is my marital status? Does the legal status change after this
long a separation?

You say that you are separated after 15 years of marriage.
If you were married, and the other person is not dead, and no divorce has been granted, then you are married to that person.

Being separated for eighteen months or more is a ground for divorce, a divorce requires a court proceeding. You are still married. If he dies without a will you are one of his statutory heirs.
