Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
My 4 yr old daughter lives with her mother, and we share joint custody of her. My daughter tells me all the time that "mom's car is broken." I see she (my daughters' mother) is in a truck with ( I assume her new boyfriend) which has tinted windows (which are illegal in NJ) and large rims and such, I feel this car may not be in legal standings. I am afraid this car may be involved in unsafe activities and I have seen my kid get in and out of this car. Is there anything I can do about this? God forbid this is a guy who is involved in drugs and gets in trouble with my daughter in the car. Please help.

Other than the tinted windows (which you are correct is illegal, but relatively minor in the scheme of things), what else about the truck or this guy concerns you. Do you have any real evidence of any illegal activity? If so, you should immediately go to the police. If not, you should keep a sharp eye on things to be sure your daughter is safe. Remember, neither the police nor the Courts will act on your feelings. They both will need evidence of problems or issues to do anything.
Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other facts that would change my opinion. And, no one can rely on the opinion of an attorney who has not been retained. Before you do anything, you should consult with a Family Law attorney. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
