Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
Abandoned Wife Seeking Divorce
My husband and I were married in 1998, but he has been out of my life, dodging child support when he could, for the past 5+ years. He also moves around so that law enforcement cannot find him. I am now receiving child support through the state, but they will not provide me his whereabouts to contact him about a divorce or serve him with papers. Am I able to get a divorce on my own since he abandoned us? How do I go about this the least expensive way and without his help?
Thank you.

Re: Abandoned Wife Seeking Divorce
You will have to serve him somehow. If you do not have any information about his current address, you would have to petition the Court to serve him in another way, either through a family member or by publishing in the newspaper. You do not need his help, but you will be obligated to make a due diligence inquiry in order to try to find him. I strongly suggest to you that you will need a lawyer to assist you on this.
